A storytelling piece I created for Armand Serrano's "Visual Development" mentorship in February 2021. The assignment was to come up with a prompt to develop into an illustration. This piece is a part of a long-term personal project I'm doing to further explore Unreal Engine.
A bit of back story, the idea for this project started during summer 2020. The overall goal being to create a game-ready character/creature and create a scene to ease back into using Unreal Engine and Megascans. I was inspired by the amazing Unreal 5 tech demo released last year, along with the beautiful trailer of Kena: Bridge of Spirits. I love this type of Disney/Dreamworks-esque style and thought, "What if the game Kena, instead of being set on a lush Asian forest, was set on a desert environment?" I love deserts (although I've never personally visited one — but hope to at some point).
